Job description
What you'd be doing in this role
As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve. At the moment, this role is focused on:
• Providing science topics and prescribing learning assessments based on curriculum performance tasks, to be used as the foundation of the Science templates produced
• Developing the content plan and direction for Science resources with the creative team
• Reviewing written creative briefs for new elements (illustrations, photos, and/or videos) to ensure topic relevancy and grade-level appropriateness
• Reviewing the curriculum alignment of the Science topics written by the creative team
• Ensuring elements used are appropriate for their intended educational purpose, and that the layout of the template facilitates smooth flow of scientific concepts
• Reviewing whether learning assessment activities written by the creative team align with the performance tasks specified in the curriculum
You're probably a match if
• You hold a relevant science degree — an education degree majoring in Science or relevant to primary science teaching for Elementary, or a degree in a specific science discipline such as Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or Earth Science for Secondary.
• You have experience in basic education and are adept at creating effective content for learning modules, textbooks, or e-learning platforms.
• You are passionate about science education and have a knack for crafting engaging lessons and creative assessment activities.
• You enjoy reading various scientific texts, adapting them into learning materials, and value citing reputable sources.
• You have an excellent grasp of English and are quick with ideas, coming up with original template copy that matches Canva's voice and brand guidelines.
• You can communicate curriculum instructions and actionable feedback clearly to non-teacher stakeholders, such as designers, PMs, engineers, and CS from other subject-matter backgrounds.
• You can thoroughly follow a project brief, proactively clarify details, conduct quick research, and convert information into excellent template copy, applying your expertise in the US and AU Science curriculum for K-12.
About the team
Canva connects with the education community as a go-to platform for students, parents, teachers, and schools, as they explore more creative and collaborative features to suit their needs. Providing education users with innovative tools also means supporting them with an array of learning materials that are both ready-to-use and easily adaptable. We also need to ensure these materials are vetted by subject matter experts, developed in line with curriculum guidelines and academic standards of various locales, and created with engaging and flexible copy for users to put their own spin on it.
