Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis until the requisition is closed.
At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!
This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.
Description:
We're hiring an experienced Manufacturing Engineer (ME) to join our Test Operations Maintenance organization, with a primary focus on Cleaning, Passivation, and Verification (CPV) and ground system component refurbishment! This role complements our existing ME workforce in Test Operations that processes engine and component hardware through testing, with a focus instead on the maintenance of our test facilities.
You will partner with us across both the Huntsville CPV/component lab and the West Texas CPV facility, where we clean and refurbish test stand elements such as valves, filters, regulators, gauges, and related fluid system hardware, along with test article hardware and ground support equipment. Together, we are also standing up a growing portfolio of new test capability builds in West Texas. You will create work orders, write Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), put the right tooling and processes in place, and support the technical skills and training we need to safely and consistently move hardware through these facilities.
This hands-on role calls for strong technical competence, organization, and communication skills, along with the aim to grow the manufacturing engineering area within Test Operations Maintenance alongside us. You will help build the history of space exploration and bring dedicated dedication and detailed attention toward safe and repeatable spaceflight.
This role is based in Huntsville, AL and reports into the Test Operations Maintenance team. Travel of 10 to 20% is encouraged to assist operations at other test sites as needed.
Responsibilities:
• Build and maintain manufacturing engineering processes, work instructions, and SOPs for CPV and ground system component activities (proof, disassembly, refurbishment, cleaning, reassembly, leak testing, functional checkout) across our Huntsville and West Texas facilities.
• Own creation, release, and configuration management of work orders driving test stand component refurbishment (valves, filters, regulators, gauges, etc.), ground support equipment, and test article cleaning flows.
• Shape and improve cleaning, passivation, verification, and refurbishment processes to meet cleanliness specs, fluid system requirements, and industry standards.
• Source, specify, and procure tooling, fixturing, and equipment for CPV and component lab operations, including new test capability builds in West Texas.
• Disposition non-conformances and, when escapes occur, drive recovery, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
• Champion continuous improvement (kaizen, process flow mapping, standard work) across CPV and component lab environments, partnering with technicians to capture and scale effective practices.
• Collaborate with design, quality, materials, and test engineering teams to deliver manufacturability, cleanability, and refurbish-ability of hardware moving through these facilities.
• Mentor junior engineers and technicians, shape department-level standards, and strengthen ERP/MRP/CMMS workflows for sharper work order management, configuration control, and traceability.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Chemical, Aerospace, or related Engineering field from an accredited university, or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of manufacturing or test engineering experience.
• Hands-on experience with hardware fabrication or handling activities such as cleaning, passivation, assembly, integration, instrumentation, non-destructive testing, leak testing, or fluid component refurbishment.
• Experience developing work instructions, SOPs, and manufacturing/process documentation.
• Experience with configuration management, requirements management, and change processes.
• Experience leading root cause analysis and corrective action activities.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with proven track record to work effectively with technicians, engineers, and leadership.
• Direct experience with fluid component and system cleaning, surface treatment, and validation procedures.
• Experience with visualizing process flows and continuous improvement methodologies.
• Strong interpersonal and analytical skills.
• Familiarity with AI tools and their application in a manufacturing or processing environment.
• Strong digital literacy (MS Office, Jira, Confluence).
• Must be eligible to gain access to Redstone Arsenal.
• Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Desired:
• Master's degree in engineering, business, or project management, or equivalent professional experience.
• Experience supporting test operations, test infrastructure, or equipment used for aircraft servicing in an aerospace or heavy industrial environment.
• Experience accomplishing maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) of fluid components, valves, or precision-cleaned hardware.
• Experience running hazardous operations involving cryogenics, pneumatics, hydraulics, or chemical processing.
• Familiarity with quality and safety standards (AS9100, ISO 9001).
• Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification.
• Experience supporting geographically distributed or multi-site operations.
• Proficiency with Costpoint, MS Project, Smartsheet, Power BI, Tableau, Databricks, or AI tools.
• Experience delivering human-rated aerospace vehicles or high-performance launch systems.
